About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: Leaden Boot Challenge 19/05/2013

A quick race report for The Leaden Boot on 19th May.

Elaine and I entered it again this year with an aim of coming in under 9 hours by walking the hills
faster and running a little of the more level sections. The course is extremely tough and contains 5000 feet of ascent so we were pleased that we ran some early sections then accepted a fast walk through the mid section.

The Route (Click to enlarge)
By 20 miles I had blisters on one heel and Elaine had twisted a knee but not too badly and we maintained the pace. Elaine let me go and I ran the last two miles arriving in 61st place in 8 hours 29 minutes and Elaine finished in 8 hours 39 minutes in 74th place out of 300 entrants.
