About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

Race Report: North London Half-marathon 20/03/2016

Based on its finishing line being inside Wembley Stadium the Vitality North London Half Marathon promotes itself as having “the best finish line in the world”.

This was the main reason that I was happy to pay the rather steep £40 entry fee.  Due to Wembley being used to far larger crowds there was no difficulty in driving to the venue or getting a parking space and the race village had all the facilities that you would expect from a large commercial race.  The only surprise was the queue for the bag drop which was caused by all the bags being checked.

Race Report: Leeds Liverpool Canal Canter 13/03/2016

The Canal Canter Marathon organised by It's Grim Up North Running events was run on March 13th as an out and back circuit from Leeds.
An inauspicious start at the race HQ - the actual race route was much more scenic!
The race was well organised with plentiful feed stations and encouraging marshals. There was a nice warm up from the race HQ to the start. The towpath was plenty wide to run on.
