About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

New to us? Join us for a run!

At Sandbach Striders we understand that deciding whether to join a running club can be a nerve-wracking business - Will I fit in? Will I be able to keep up? Many of us started out the same way, we got into running to lose weight, get fit and make new friends. We love running now and we want you to love it as much we do!

We aim to be a welcoming, inclusive and friendly group. Whoever you are and whatever your standard, you can be assured of a warm welcome with us.

Our members are a cosmopolitan bunch - we have a good mixture of young and old, male and female and have runners from all walks of life. Even a couple of dogs.

We encourage prospective members to come and run with us, there is absolutely no obligation to join for the first month - come and give us a try!

We normally run 5-6 miles (9-10km) on our training runs, but there are Striders who run less. if you aren't confident about getting round that distance do contact us, we'll be happy to organise a small group to run with you and we can even help with a training plan to help you achieve your goals.

if you want to say hello or would like some more information, feel free to drop our Chairman, Michael an email on:

FAQ

How much is it to join?

Normal club membership is just £10 per quarter, but you can run with us for the first month for nothing and with no obligation. Membership forms can be downloaded here in Word or PDF

What is included in my membership?

You become a member of UK Athletics which gives you running insurance plus a £2 discount on most race entries. We also give each member a free running vest on joining. We arrange several running or training opportunities each week which are all free to members. Each year we subsidise a camping weekend (which in 2013 included free camping and a free race entry). We have numerous social events throughout the year including a big annual awards party which we also partially subsidise. In short, we work hard to give our members a full and enjoyable running experience!

Where do you meet?

We meet at Elworth Cricket Club on London Road  Sandbach, CW11 3BF

Are you all elite athletes?

Far from it! We have a real mixture of ages and abilities. Our members run everything from 5k fun runs to fell races and marathons. We have one thing in common - our love of running.

What can I expect on my first visit?
