About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

About us

Our club – A short history

Sandbach Striders Running Club was formed in 2003. An advertisement in the local paper drew a group interested in running and with a wide range of ability to the car park at Bradwell Village Hall. The group was small but enthusiastic and met each Wednesday to run the lanes of Bradwall.

The first “official meeting” took place at The Military Arms pub in the centre of Sandbach on 1st June 2003. It was here the club was formed, a name chosen and a committee selected. The club was originally named Sandbach Striders and Strollers. It was founded to embrace all those who loved to run. Although “Strollers” was later dropped from the name we welcome all abilities and as a running community seek to nurture, support and encourage all who choose to join us.

It was in September 2003 that we made Elworth Cricket Club our base. It is an excellent facility providing showering facilities, a bar and a venue for social events as well as being the venue for the Sandbach 10k race organised by the club in the Autumn each year.

In November 2011 we founded the Crewe Déjà vu track marathon, an event which was an instant success and has been voted the most popular track marathon in the country.

But Sandbach Striders is more than a running club: our social scene thrives and friendships continue to be forged.

We extend a warm welcome to all our new members!
