About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

Race Report: Warrington 10k 20/06/2013

There are days when you'd wish you'd thrown your rule book out the window, this was one of those days.

After posting respectable times at Congleton Park Run, and gaining successive PB's, I

Race Report: Stone St. Michaels 10k 23/06/2013

Today I ran the Stone 10k.  This race is a two lap course , very flat  so I had set myself a task of beating last years  time of 54.11.

For the past 4 years this race has been a good one for me, not because the sun is always out and I have

Race Report: Tattenhall Tough 9m 21/06/2013

Well after a shout out on facebook for 2 other nutters to join me on a last minute challenge to make up a team of 3 for the above race, Tom and Ben naively volunteered. (will they never learn!)

So, with team bagged, we met up at the very plush Tattenhall cricket club and eyeing up the competition, we soon realised that we were no competition for what appeared to be a very experienced cross-country crowd. You know the type, built like bean poles and all wiry looking.

Upcoming Event: Mik's Mystery Scavenger Hunt 26/06/2013

Starting from the club at 6:30pm, you will be working in pairs to try and collect photographs of as many items as possible - the harder the items the more points you will score!

Records fall at Predictathon 2013!

Records at both ends of the field fell at this years Predictathon!

Champion predictor 2013 - Mr Perry Wyatt.
The previous club record for the best prediction of 3 seconds, held by Paul Barnett in 2012 fell in spectacular fashion. As did the record for the worst prediction (previously 213 seconds by Alan Campbell.)

Race Report: Potter's 'Arf 09/06/2013

The 'Potters Arf' wasn't on my list of runs to do, not sure why, but it just didn't appeal. However
when one or two other Striders said they were doing it, then I thought "why not?", besides it's on
our doorstep and I'm glad I did!

Sunday morning arrived and I first picked up Heather from the cricket club followed by Tom,

Race Report: Bosley Fell Race 08/06/2013

Laying demons to rest!

After last year’s minor disaster of falling head long into a bog and tearing ligaments, I definitely had unfinished business with this run.

So I took emergency back- up with me this year in the shape of a very good friend who insisted that she would be fine with a cuppa, a piece of WI cake and a sit in the sunshine, whilst I and a lovely large field of fellow runners took to the hills.

Upcoming Event: Predictathon 12/06/2013

It's Predictathon time!

It's your annual opportunity to run the Super 6 route and predict what time you will run it in. How well do you know your pace? Or are you a lucky guesser?

Race Report: Cheshire Sprint Triathlon 02/06/2013

The Cheshire Triathlon, has apparently been going for many years, and for me back at New Year, probably after a bottle of wine, I thought it would be good to try something different, and why not try a triathlon which I duly entered.

At the time it seemed like a good idea, but at times during my training, I wondered what I'd let myself in for.

Let’s talk semantics...

Race Report: Abersoch 10k 01/06/2013

The popular village of 'Abersoch' is located at the end of the Llyn Peninsular, North Wales.

I've done this race 3 times in the past and always enjoyed it, mainly for its stunning scenery, but it
also has an added attraction in that the last mile is run along the length of the beach.

Race Report: Kentmere 17k Trail Race 01/06/2013

This Race Starts in Staveley in Kentmere and there are three races a 10k trail race, the 17k challenge and the 17k trail race which is the one that I ran.

Race Report: Shutlingsoe Fell Race 27/05/2013

Short and brutal would be one way of describing this event but that alone would be a little unfair.

Race Report: Wincle Trout 01/06/2013

On Saturday I woke up to two things. The first day of June and sunshine, just right for the Wincle Trout 9K run.

Striders donate £1062 to The Christie Charity

Sandbach Striders were very pleased recently to donate £1062 to The Christie Appeal. The money comes from the proceeds raised by the very popular track marathon, the Crewe Déjà vu from 2011 and 2012, and also from selling our range of home-made cakes at the Sandbach 10k.

Striders on the Radio
