About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Sandbach Striders Free Couch to 5k course to return in 2016!


For the fourth year running, Sandbach Striders Running Cub will be hosting their ever-popular ‘Couch-to-5k’ running programme. This free of charge 10 week programme aims to take non-runners all the way to running their first 5k race.

If you would like to get fit, meet new people and find out why we all love running then the Couch to 5k course is for you.

Starting on Wednesday 9th March at 6:30pm and running for 10 weeks, we will encourage and help you achieve the target of running 5k (3.11 miles!) without stopping.

Whether you are a non-runner or returning to running after a break and no matter what your current level of fitness is, you'll be made welcome and encouraged every step of the way.  We will offer you a running mentor and a tailored training program to help you achieve the target at a pace that suits you and your lifestyle.

Wednesday evenings are our most popular club night and so you'll be made welcome by many Striders of all ages and abilities each with their own running story to tell.  You will get the opportunity to meet some of last year's Couch to 5k graduates who are now regular runners and have achieved things in the past year that they never dreamed possible.

Don't be shy! Make a real difference to your fitness and your social life by booking a place on the course.  Once you have booked, we will email you to ask to tell us a little about your fitness history in order that we can group you with people of a similar ability.
And on the first night, all you need to bring is yourself in clothes and training shoes that you feel comfortable exercising in.
