About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 04/01/2016

The members of Sandbach Striders running club started their 2016 running campaign early with several Striders braving the New Year’s Day hangovers to register their first runs of the new year.

On New Year’s Day, Craig Edwards travelled to Robin Hood’s Bay in Whitby, North Yorkshire to participate in the Hardmoors 30 mile trail race. Craig completed the event in 6:31:12 



Congleton parkrun organized a special bank holiday event in which six Striders competed.

As the event at Congleton started at 9am and the Hanley parkrun at 10am one intrepid Strider opted to complete both. Darren Varley finished the Hanley course in 19:08.

Congleton parkrun was back in action the following day where having had sufficient time to shake off the New Year’s Eve festivities, eighteen Striders completed in the three laps of Astbury Mere.

Also in parkrun action was Andrew Gibson who completed the Warrington parkrun in a time of 29:08. Nick Hogan and Rachel Green completed the Delamere parkrun in a time of 24:44 and 26:05 respectively.

On Sunday 3rd January 2016, two Striders ran the Hit the Trail race. Darren Varley finished in 31:03 and Denis Culloty narrowly behind in 52:09.

On Monday 4th Sandbach Striders played host to a very special visitor. Ben Smith is currently embarking on the challenge of a lifetime running 401 consecutive marathons in a bid to raise £250,000 for the charities Stonewall and Kidscape, charities which work tireless to combat bullying in our schools and society. Ben joined members of Sandbach Striders running club to run 26.2 miles on what was his 126th consecutive marathon. The Striders planned a route which took in many of the sights of Sandbach including the Saxon crosses, the Pink Church and the many examples of Sir Gilbert Scott’s gothic revival architecture.
