About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

Inaugural Striders' Bike Ride this Sunday!

Greetings to you all from sunny/smoggy Essex. Fear not even though I am far away near the big smoke I have been working hard on setting up the bike ride. I hear there have been a few questions at the club about the what and the when so here goes. We will be meeting at the bears head pub in Brereton for  10:30-Originally I told some people 10 so please spread the word about the new time.

From the pub we will split into two groups, one for muddy mountain bikers who like a bit of rough and a second for all you smooth road riders out there. Chris Brumby has kindly volunteered to lead the Mountain bikers on a route around Brereton and surrounding countryside for about 8 miles or so finishing back up at the pub. I will lead the roadies around a separate 9 mile loop course also around Brereton area, with the idea that each rider can do as many or as little laps as they like to build up extra mileage if they so wish.

In the true spirit of bike clubs there shall be the opportunity to get some food from the pub once you have got off your trusty stead, I for one will be having a nice Sunday lunch. I think it will be a good time to chat and discuss the rides and any future events we wish to plan. Sticking with the idea of the running club the cycle event will not be at all elitist and both groups will ride at the pace of the slowest rider so that no one gets lost or left behind. I hope this will be a fun event for all and something that will broaden the club.

Please let me know by email or text if you will be attending and which ride you will be doing, feel free to drag anyone else along with you who may enjoy it, club members or family etc.

Also if anyone wants to come along who has not got a bike to hand, Paul Nicholls has kindly offered the loan of his bikes, so please contact him if you would like to borrow one, I hear he does some very reasonable rental rates.

Thanks and Regards

Chris Coppenhall
