About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

Race Report: Torchlight Run 21/11/2011

Torchlight Run #4 (21/11/2011) - Brereton

Another nice route suggested by Chris Brumby that started and finished at The Bears Head car park, I like these night runs more and more, could it be the pub finish?

Rehydrating afterwards in the Bears Head, Brereton

Six of us tonight, Chris B, Jill, Chris C, Mik, Heather and myself. We set off along tarmac towards Brereton Hall, passed St Oswalde's church onto Muddy Lane, no mud tonight though, passed Bagmere Bank Farm to Brereton Heath.

Once at the Heath we cut diagonally through the woods for the first of two laps around Brereton Mere exiting through the same gate we entered. It was then through two fields, the footpaths were not obvious but thankfully due to his local knowledge Chris led us back to the far end of Brereton Heath without a problem for our second lap of the woods and Brereton Mere.

We exited the Heath again then retraced our route back along Muddy Lane and our return to the Bears Head for some refreshment.

Google earth assures us that this is where we ran

The route was a flat 5.9 miles at an easy pace so nobody was left behind. Many thanks to Mik for organising it and Chris for the route... very enjoyable.
