About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

"No Ordinary Running Club!"

Race Report: Halloween Hellraiser 30/10/2011

 Halloween Hellraiser - 30th October 2011

I arrived at the Vagrants Club, Shavington just before 9am, felt quite lonely at first (wot no Striders!)  but was joined by John Lawton after about five minutes. There was a good atmosphere at the start with quite a few runners in fancy dress - mainly for the fun run.

Captain Quick setting an early pace!

A predominantly cross country race on an undulating route from Shavington via Wybunbury. Across fields, through the churchyard, on to the road and circling round towards Blakenhall, going off road again, across fields, back down the same road, through the churchyard, via Cockshades and back to the Vagrants. Slightly extended from last year (just over nine miles) a challenging course with many stiles and kissing gates to negotiate, but good fun and a  race I enjoyed and would recommend to club members.

It looks like John has just seen a ghost!
A good outing for me I beat last year's time by one minute despite the course being about half a mile longer. Goody bag at the finish included a bottle of beer which made the afternoon a little more relaxing.

Not so much a hellraiser - but a devil of a race.
