About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 26/10/2015

Although the weather was mixed this weekend, it did not stop Sandbach Striders taking part in a variety of events.
Grant Stanning, Mik Escolme, Kate Jayden, Martin Gunther, Heather Carter and behind are Craig Edwards and Christopher De Rycke at the Snowdon Marathon
Closest to home were the eight Striders who ran the free weekly Congleton parkrun. Although no PB’s were achieved, some good times were achieved.

The full results were as follows:

19.06 Tony Taylor
20.32 Rick Kelso-Davies
20.50 Terry Coppenhall
21.33 Paul Barnett
24.33 Duncan Robertson
26:2 Denis Culloty
26.56 Alice Bober
31.45 Tracey Hale

Another group of intrepid Striders took themselves off to run  the ever popular Snowdonia Marathon which although does not run up and down to the summit, nevertheless throws some interesting ascents and descents over the course. Despite the torrential rain our six hardy runners all completed the course in good time.

The results are as follows:

3.48.35 Heather Carter
3.58.23 Craig Edwards
4.03.35 Martin Gunther
4.51.23 Kate Jayden
5.05.25 Michael Escolme
5.45.31 Grant Stanning

In action two days later were Grant Stanning and Michael Escolme who travelled over to Ireland to participate in the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon. Dressed as Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria the two intrepid Striders ran the 26.2 course round the City of Dublin. Michael finished in 4:44:25 with Grant narrowly behind in 5:16:11.

Sunday brought finer weather and yet more Sandbach Striders hit the roads around Lincolnshire and Cheshire. Partners, Rachel Green and Nick Hogan ran the Brigg 10k poppy run over in Lincolnshire. Proceeds of this run go towards the well deserved Poppy Appeal. Rachel completed it in 51.42 and Nick in 44.20.

Last but not least, four Striders took part in the popular Halloween Hellraiser which is organised by South Cheshire Harriers and starts at the Crewe Vagrants Sports Club. This well organised  9 mile run takes the runners through some beautiful Cheshire countryside and a graveyard!
