About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 19/10/2015

There was a huge turnout of Sandbach Striders at the free weekly 5k parkrun at Astbury Mere in Congleton this week. Eighteen Striders crossed the finish line with Tony Taylor, James Boon and Helen Child all recording new personal best times.

Also in parkrun action was Julia Dunlop who ran the Conwy parkrun in North Wales, finishing in a time of 31:13, a new personal best time.

Four Striders took on the 50 mile challenge of the Round Rotherham race. A circular, mostly off-road event that takes participants around the South Yorkshire countryside. Steve Treweeks was the first Strider home in a time of 12:20:42, narrowly followed by Craig Edwards in 12:20:45, Clare Pheasey in 12:20:47 and Terry Coppenhall in 12:20:50.

Paul Nicholls was in action at the Pattingham Bell 7 mile trail race near Wolverhampton, finishing the course in a time of 1:09:28. Paul's race report can be read here.

Striders were also represented in three different 10k events. Firstly Andy Thomas ran the Sheffield Ten 10k Ten event, a challenging multi-terrain 10k course starting in Endcliffe Park in Sheffield.  Andy finished in a time of 43:01 coming second in his age category. Liz O’Keeffe and James Boon ran the Werrington 10k, an undulating course along quite country roads a few miles east of Stoke-on-Trent. Liz finished in a time of 56:46, winning her age category and James finished in 49:42. Liz's race report can be read here.

Ten Striders were in the village of Farndon a few miles east of Wrexham to run the Farndon 10k. Heather Carter came first in her age category.
