About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 10/10/2016

This week saw the birth of two Titchy Striders! Congratulations to Mik Escolme and his wife Mary on the birth of their baby boy, and to Striders’ Rachel Green and Nick Hogan on the birth of their daughter Ivy.
In running news, seven Striders took part in the Congleton parkrun at Astbury Mere, with Andy Thomas and Stephen Mclean pushing each other round to achieve new personal best times. Lisa Highfield also achieved a new PB. Full results were:

Striders at Congleton parkrun
Paul Barnett travelled to Connah’s Quay to take part in Wepre parkrun and came 3rd overall in a time of 21:43.

Alice and David Sharpe took a few hours out of their holiday to take part in the Penrose parkrun, an out and back course through a country estate. David finished in 24:35 and Alice in 25:04.

Duncan Robertson continued with his tour of the country’s parkrun’s, finding himself at Chippenham this week. He completed the course in 35:47.

Over in Bulgaria, club member Liz O’Keeffe ran her local parkrun in Varna 27:37.

On Sunday, Striders headed over to Winsford to take part in the Run Winsford 10k. The route takes in the Winsford Salt mines, Whitegate Way, Vale Royal Abbey, and the River Weaver. Heather Carter came in as 2nd female and there were personal best times for Lynsey Astles and Elaine Wood (who also came second in her category). Full results were:

Paul Nicholls travelled North to take part in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon. Not content to run the race in his usual race gear, Paul opted for a fetching pink outfit! Paul finished the race in a hot and sweaty 4:54.
