About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

The Striders have excelled themselves this week with plenty of personal bests and plenty of miles in the bag.
Seven Striders headed to Astbury Mere on Saturday morning for the Congleton parkrun . Full results were:

Paul Barnett travelled Wales for the Conwy parkrun and completed the course in 20:42.

Over in Cheltenham, Wendy Barnes completed the Cheltenham parkrun course in 28:33.
In Bulgaria, club member Liz O’Keeffe ran her local parkrun in Varna 26:52


On Sunday, Striders headed over to Chester to take part in the Farndon 10k. The route takes in the Winsford Salt mines, Whitegate Way, Vale Royal Abbey, and the River Weaver. A scenic route taking in Carden Park Golf Club. Heather Carter came in first in her category and there was a personal best time for David Sharp. Full results were:

Striders at Farndon 10k

A huge number of Striders headed to Manchester for the Manchester Half and for some it was their first race of this distance. The course was flat and fast and took in Old Trafford Football club, before heading out into Sale and finishing at Old Trafford Cricket ground. Full results:

Further afield, Lynsey Astles took time out of her mini-break to take park in Palma De Mallorca half marathon in a sweltering 31 degrees. Lynsey finished the race in 2:12.

Finally, Craig Edwards and Fran Gilchrist took part in an 100 miles continuous trail raced based in the twinned villages of Goring and Streatley on the River Thames, taking runners on a series of 4 out and back 25 mile spurs. Craig finished in a time of 25 hours and 18 minutes clocking 106 on his garmin, with Fran finishing in 27:14.
