About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Racing got underway early this week with 6 Striders taking part in one of South Cheshire Harrier’s 5K Summer Series events at Queens Park. Darren Varley finished in 8th place. Full results were:

Darren was in action again on Thursday with 3 other Striders at a Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series race at Rudyard, a picturesque course even in the pouring rain. Darren came one better in this 5 mile race finishing 7th! Full results were:

It was a relatively quiet Saturday morning with Striders in action in only three different parkruns.

15 Striders headed over to Congleton – 11 running and 4 volunteering – with personal best times for Catherine Winders and Liz O’Keeffe, the week before her 60th birthday! Full results were:

Lynsey Astles was in Jersey and finished the sunny parkrun in 26.33 and Duncan Robertson was in Cheltenham completing their course in 25.49.

On Sunday, Striders headed over to Alderley Edge to run the by-pass. This 5 mile race takes place on the Alderley Edge By pass whilst closed to all traffic. Running 2.5 straight miles with no real corners on smooth tarmac away from Wilmslow and then turning back and running back on the same route. With only gentle undulation, it is a fast course – so much so, the lead car was a Ferrari! And more importantly, there was a PB for James. Full results were:

Finally, a number of striders headed to Shropshire to take part in the Ultimate Half Triathlon, a demanding 'half iron distance' event held at Dearnford Lake venue in Whitchurch.
