About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 28/09/2015

This week, members of Sandbach Striders running club participated in seven diverse events around the country.

Closest to home were the ten Striders who ran the free weekly Congleton parkrun. Heather Carter was the first female to cross the finishing line, whilst Tony Taylor, Denise Dowling and Helen Child all earned themselves new personal best times. Lee Chadwick also ran his first ever parkrun since joining the club.

Also in parkrun action were Michael Escolme and Grant Stanning who travelled to North Wales to run the Conwy parkrun. Based at the RSPB nature reserve on the Conwy estuary, this single lap out and back route takes runners on a scenic route along the river and around the marina. Michael finished in 25:32 with Grant narrowly behind in 29:00. Julia Dunlop who has just begin to run with the Striders finished in 32:02.

Also enjoying some parkrun tourism were Claire Dalton who ran the Oak Hill parkrun in East Barnet, London. This parkrun consists of a two and three quarter lap course of Oak Hill park, parkland which dates back to at least the eleventh century, when it was owned by the church. Claire finished in 28:20.

Gillian Fallows travelled to Harrogate and ran the parkrun located at The Stray gardens and parkland close to the town centre. Gillian finished in a time of 26:21.

The next day it was Gillian’s husband Steve’s turn to be in action. The Brownlee triathlon, organised by Olympic triathletes Alistair & Jonny Brownlee in the grounds of historic Harewood House near Leeds. Steve completed the Olympic distance event in a time of 1:40:01, finishing the swim stage in a top 10 position.

Duncan Robertson took on the challenge of running his first ever half-marathon at the Macclesfield Half finishing in a time of 02:01:59.

Craig Edwards and Jaynie Turner were in Delamere Forest to run the Sandstone Trail race. Craig opted for the A Race, a 17.1 mile route with 655m climb, with Jaynie competing in the B Race, a 10.6 mile route with 288m of climb. Craig finished in a time of 2:49:04 and Jaynie in 1:54:17.
