About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 17/03/2014

Members of Sandbach Striders running club once more partook in another varied and eclectic mix of running events over the past week.

On Saturday, Striders took part in three different parkrun events amongst the several hundred free events that now take part every Saturday around the country.


First of all, Mat Simister ran the Delamere parkrun, completing the 5k course in 22:58

Meanwhile Michael Escolme took on the challenge of Hanley park, finishing in 23:44

Congleton parkrun once more proved much the most popular with 11 Striders participating, the two stand-out performances being from junior Striders Molly and Heidi Pheasey who both earned new personal best times. The full results were as follows:

Also on Saturday, Chris Brumby once more took on the 33 mile Haworth Hobble cross-country race across the moors of Bronte country, completing the event just outside his personal best time in 6:22:34

On Sunday, in search of some spring sunshine husband and wife duo Cheryl and Gordon Hutchins travelled to Southern Spain to partake in the Barcelona Marathon. This 26.2 mile course around the beautiful Catalan capital is a popular destination for runners who are both keen to challenge themselves with a fast but warm course and to admire the Gaudi architecture.

Sandbach Striders are a small, friendly running club who welcome new members of all abilities. They also run “Couch to 5k” sessions to encourage people who would like to run but lack fitness or confidence, these ten week programs are free to attend and start again on Wednesday 9th April.
