About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

News from Sandbach Striders 28/06/2015

Member of Sandbach Striders took the famous Sandbach Cross logo that identifies and unifies the club across the globe this week in a typically diverse selection of races.

Closest to home were the thirteen Striders who ran the free weekly Congleton parkrun at Astbury Mere. Tim Woods, Steve Farnell both ran new personal best times whilst Lisa Reynolds completed her first event.

Meanwhile in Gloucestershire Wendy Barnes ran the Cheltenham parkrun which takes place at the early Victorian era Pittville park. Wensy finished in 27:53.

Fran Gilchrist found himself in Southern Poland near the border of the Czech Republic in the Medieval City of Krakow. The parkrun takes place in Błonia Park, a large park immediately adjacent to the historic city centre. Fran finished the 5km course in 22:41.

Andy Thomas ran the Warrington 10k, an event hosted by Warrington Road Runners for the last 35 years. The course is a very flat two laps based around pleasant parkland in Woolston, east Warrington. Andy finished in 28th place overall in a time of 40:40.

Denise Dowling also ran a 10k known as the Clumber Park Trailblazer. Clumber Park is a beautiful National Trust property, complete with, thick woodland, wild gardens and a serene ornamental lake whose history can be traced back to the Domesday Book. Denise ran the off-road course in 58:29.

Moe Dutton also ran 10k at Richmond Park in south-west London. Originally royal hinting grounds the extensive park now provides a range of scenic running routes. Moe finished in a time of 01:01:25.

Closer to home twelve Striders ran the Colshaw Hall 10k. Based at the imposing ear;y-twentieth century Manor House in the village of Peover Superior, the one lap 10k course provides runners with impressive views of the both the Cheshire countryside and the nearby Jodrell Bank Observatory.

At the popular seaside town of Rhyl on the North Wales coast, Heather Carter ran the Rhyl Half-marathon one of several running events that forms the RunFest Wales weekend. Heather finished as first female in a time of 1.33.55, whilst her husband Darren finished the 5k race in a time of 22 minutes exactly.

Also in half-marathon action at a scenic holiday destination was Jill Young who participated in the Mont Blanc 23km trail race. Starting from a paragliding landing field the route climbs steadily towards the upper valley of Mont Blanc, passing through "les Bois" and Lavancher before reaching Argentière  after a climb of 1250m. The route continues to climb along the Charlanon comb to reach the village of Planpraz.

Paul Nicholls was in action at the Wakefield Marathon in Yorkshire finishing in a time of 4:54:39.

Kate Jayden is currently running the Great Barrow Challenge, a series of ten marathons in ten days. At the time of writing Kate had just completed day four in a time of 4:56:38

Sandbach, Middlewich, Alsager, Holmes Chapel and beyond for over ten years. As well as a varied running programme the club has an excellent social calendar and for those runners looking to improve, Sandbach Striders have a number of fully-qualified running coaches to offer advice on training and ensure the safety and well-being of its members. They also organise the Sandbach 10k, a popular local running event which this year in its tenth anniversary promises to be the most fun and family friendly running event in the North-west.
