About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Sandbach Striders are once again organising their hugely popular free Couch to 5k running programme. This ten week training programme provides a route into running for anyone who wishes to build fitness, meet new friends and make regular running part of their lifestyle. With qualified run coaches on hand to give advice and help the participants attain their running and fitness goals. Around 50 new runners joined the Striders at Elworth Cricket Club at 6:30pm on Wednesday and took the first steps into the world of running.

On Saturday, Fourteen members of Sandbach Striders ran the ever popular free weekly Congleton parkrun, with three Striders recording new personal best times. Darren Varley, Nick Hogan and George Nicholls all improved their personal best times with Darren finishing in an impressive 3rd place overall.

Also in action were husband and wife duo Tony and Ruth Ward who ran the Delamere parkrun in Delamere Forest. Tony finished in 29:18 with Ruth following shortly behind in 32:06. 

Michael Escolme ran the Lanhydrock parkrun near Bodmin in Cornwall. The very scenic and hilly parkrun is a one lap tour of the grounds of the Lanhydrock National Trust estate. Translating as the 'church enclosure of St Hydrock' this huge country manor house stands within a huge 890 acre estate.

In the Lake District the Grizedale Trail marathon and Half-marathon were run, both following the tradition of trail runs by being longer than the stated distances.

Starting at Grizedale Forest Visitor’s Centre runners are treated to spectacular views of Coniston Water and Lake Windermere along the challenging trail route. Chris Brumby finished the 28 mile route in 05:24:05 whilst Jill Young along with dog Andre finished the 14 mile route in 02:57:35

In Southport, Steve Treweeks and Lucy Lee ran the Mad Dog 10k, a popular flat and fast event which always attracts a large running crowd. Both Striders finished in 52:35 which was a new personal best time for Lucy. Lucy's son Nathan Lee completed the Crazy Pups fun run in 8.04.

Sandbach Striders are a friendly, supportive and inclusive running club who welcome new members of all abilities. They have great club facilities, qualified run coaches that can advise on training and organise a varied and enjoyable calendar of social and running events.
