About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 26/01/2014

After a weekend of poor weather which saw a number of local running events cancelled it was business as usual this week when 15 members of Sandbach Striders Running Club ran the free weekly 5k parkrun at Congleton.

George Nicholls, Stella Stilwell and Rachel Green all earned themselves new personal best times as did young Thomas Taylor who managed to outsprint his dad Tony to notch up his third parkrun.

Meanwhile further south, Michael Escolme ran the Hanley parkrun. At this time of year the steep slopes of Hanley Park are notoriously vulnerable to ice, fortunately a small route change avoided any slipping hazards for the record attendance of 226 runners.

On Sunday, Denis Culloty travelled north up to Lancashire to run the Welcome Tavern 10k. This popular event starts and finishes at the eponymous pub and running alongside the River Ribble to the attractive Avenham Park near the centre of the city. Denis finished the race in 56:38

Sandbach Striders running club are pleased to announce the return of their popular free Couch-to-5k programme. Starting on Wednesday 4th February and running for ten weeks you will be taken through an established programme which aims to take you to your target of running 5k (or 3.1 miles.)

Whether you are a non-runner or returning to running after a break and no matter what your current level of fitness is, you'll be made welcome and encouraged every step of the way. You will get the opportunity to meet some of last year's Couch to 5k graduates who are now regular runners and have achieved things in the past year that they never dreamed possible.

All you need are a pair of trainers and some weather-appropriate clothes that you are comfortable exercising in. Then pop along to our HQ at Elworth Cricket Club at 6:30pm on Wednesday 4th February!
