About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Sandbach Striders running club are pleased to announce the return of their popular *free* Couch-to-5k programme.

Starting on Wednesday 4th February and running for ten weeks you will be taken through an established programme which aims to take you to your target of running 5k (or 3.1 miles.)

This week's news: 26/01/2014

After a weekend of poor weather which saw a number of local running events cancelled it was business as usual this week when 15 members of Sandbach Striders Running Club ran the free weekly 5k parkrun at Congleton.

George Nicholls, Stella Stilwell and Rachel Green all earned themselves new personal best times as did young Thomas Taylor who managed to outsprint his dad Tony to notch up his third parkrun.

Race Report: Welcome Tavern 10k 25/01/2015

The Welcome Tavern 10k is an annual event starting from a pub in Walton Le Dale near Preston.

Unfortunately the pub is currently closed for refurbishment so the race HQ and route were both revised this year. This year the race HQ was based in a car park a mile from the start at the Capitol shopping centre and this resulted in a good number of people having to make a last minute dash to the HQ to collect race numbers.

The first casualty was the free weekly 5k parkrun at Congleton which was cancelled early on Saturday morning due to ice on the paths surrounding Astbury Mere.

This week's news:12/01/2015

Members of Sandbach Striders Running Club continue to support the free weekly parkruns that continue to grow in all areas of the corner and increasingly internationally too.

Locally, twelve Striders ran the three laps of Astbury Mere which make up the 5k route of the Congleton parkrun. Evidently most Striders were still shrugging off their seasonal excesses as there were no new personal best times this week.

Race Report; Adlington Winter Warmer 28/12/2014

Five brave striders met on a freezing Sunday morning for a trip to Adlington (Macclesfield), for there annual 'Winter Warmer 10k' race.

This is a 10k race with a difference, all watches, GPS and phones were banned, the race was a 'predictathon', the idea being, to predict your finishing time. The person who finished nearest their predicted time, was the winner, the beauty of this being, anyone had a chance to win.
