About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news 23/11/2014



Members of Sandbach Striders running club ran in three different variations of the popular free weekly 5k parkruns. Firstly, Isobel Bennett was in Shrewsbury  to run the Shrewsbury parkrun based at The Quarry parkland near Shrewsbury town centre. Isobel finished in 29:54.

In Birmingham Michael Escolme ran the inaugural Perry Hall parkrun. This event consisted of two laps  around the parkland which once formed the grounds to the now demolished Perry Hall. Michael finished in 30:52.

At Astbury Mere, 24 Striders were present at the Congleton parkrun. In just over two years since the event started and in that time Sandbach Striders have now crossed the finishing line an incredible 1064 times, making them the most represented running club at Congleton parkrun by some margin. Two Striders managed new personal best times, Janet Burgess and Ian Cussons.

Also in action on Saturday was Chris Brumby who ran the Penmaenmawr fell race. This ten mile event takes in an impressive 1950 foot of ascent and starts in the beautiful Welsh village of Penmaenmawr in the shadows of the mountain of the same name, just along the North Wales coast from Conwy.

Nearby on the next day five Striders ran the Conway Half-marathon. This popular and scenic race starts on the quayside in front of Conwy Castle.  The route takes In Deganwy beach and Llandudno Pier, then around the Great Orme taking in views of the Isle of Anglesey, Puffin Island and the surrounding North Wales coastline, then back to Conwy and the finish line. Steve Farnell capped off a successful year of running since joining Sandbach Striders by running a new personal best time.
