Race Report: Hanchurch Hilly 11/04/2013

Yesterday I managed to talk Paul Nicholls into running the Spring Treble Series organised by the Stone Master Marathoners.

The first race was Hanchurch Hilly which we both did last night. It was freezing so Paul aptly renamed it “Hanchurch Chilly”  but as soon as you got going we soon warmed up.  The course is downhill for the first three miles, then we came to a nice water logged patch on the trail. I knew I should have worn my fell shoes instead of my nice hot pink road ones, now I’ve two pair to clean!!!

The Ranger had been felling some trees so we had been warned to negotiate them, which is ok if you don’t have little legs.  After the third mile Paul soon saw the hill I was referring to as “ a bit like the one on the cloud where you climb and climb up a rutted path”.  (sorry Paul but you had to experience it first hand).  After this section, there was a slight downhill then near to the last mile a nice big hill.  Just what you needed.

I was pleased as I managed to knock three minutes of my 2011 time.  The next race in the series is next Thursday the Milford Murder. If Paul thought Hanchurch was hilly wait till he gets to this one.  On 24 April is the last race in the series which is the Barleston Up and Down. I’ve not done that one but have heard that this is not as bad as the others!!!  Then again I don’t usually listen to what others say, their idea of a hill and mine are completely different.

If you want a different race to do then this series is the one for you. It’s well organised.  Costs £20 for three races and you get a nice t shirt. Bargain.
