About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race report: Shakespeare Marathon 28/04/2013

Well, I’m sure there will be more than one race report for this race but thought I would enter mine and my thoughts.

I can’t quite remember why I entered this Marathon, I think it was to do with using it as a training event for the Sandstone trail race in 2 weeks time. But whatever my reasons were, I’m glad I chose to enter.

Race Report: Barlaston Up and Down 25/04/2013

Tonight was the last 5 mile race of the Stone Master Marathoners treble series which myself and Paul Nicholls had signed up for.  This one was a new one for me as it replaced Kibblestone ( that was the one with all the steps in in it).
Paul, Chris and Liz: all smiles after crossing the finish line.
I had been told it was a really nice one but that there was a bit of a hill in it!!!!!

Race Report: Whitley10k 14/04/2013

When I heard about Whitley 10k, I was immdiatley drawn to it as it is near to Lake Budworth where I sail most weekends, so the opportunity to run in the morning and sail in the afternoon, was to good to miss!

The race has a reputation for being very well organised, and this was very evident with lots signs to the race start as well as an army of helpers and marshalls at the course itself.

Run Report: Hash Run 20/04/2013

On Saturday 20 April I decided to do something different and was asked if any of the Sandbach Striders wanted to join a hash run which was being set by two of the South Cheshire Harriers.  As I was a Saudi Arabian Hasher (Haggis Basher) I knew what it was all about. However, for those of you that don’t know anything about Hashing here is a bit of information:

Race Report: Sandstone Trail 10k 14/04/2013

When quietly beading (making jewellery with Cheryl Coppenhall) and minding my own business, Hannah Barton (another beader) piped up that her sister had let her down for the weekend and did I fancy joining her in a 10k run around the Peckforton hills in aid of the NSPCC. Having already planned my long run for the day before, I said that only if we go steadily as I didn’t want to turn an ankle so close to my forthcoming marathon and that it wasn’t raining.

Race Report: Milford Murder 18/04/2013

Before I start this report, it carries an x rated certificate. It does this for 2 reasons.
  1. It describes a severely competitive nature not normally associated with our wonderful friendly club.
  2. It shows the terrible acts of a frustrated runner.
Paul hurtling past some other runners.
So the time was 5-30 on the dot as I watched Liz reverse her car in to my driveway and knock on my

Race Report: Newcastle Road Race 10k 14/04/2013

On Sunday 14 April myself and Dennis ran the Newcastle 10K, which was formerly the Newcastle 7.  As we set off on the M6 the wind had picked up and just prayed that there would be no rain.

Race Report: Fælledparken Parkrun 06/04/2013

When I told Mik that I was going to Copenhagen to visit our mutual friend Dave, his first response, of course, was to send me the link to www.parkrun.dk and ask me not to forget the race report!

Me listening to the pre-race briefing in Danish, while everyone else wonders what sort of idiot wears short sleeves in April

News! news! news!

Chester Spring 5 (5 mile) – Wednesday 3rd April
This five-mile road race, first held in 1993, starts and finishes at the Cheshire County Sports Club playing fields. The route uses gently undulating country lanes, and is generally downhill for the first two miles, before a short climb at halfway eases to a gradual rise. Most of the last mile back to the finish on the playing fields is flat.

The last ever Daily Perrygraph

It's with sadness that we announce the final ever edition of the Daily Perrygraph due to the retirement of our Press Officer Mr Perry Wyatt. But we are pleased to welcome our new Press Office Mr Danny McLaughlin to the role!

Keep sending all your race times and photos to
they will automatically go to the correct person when the changeover is complete.

The Easter weekend was an extremely busy time for two Sandbach Striders, Chairman Michael Escolme and Coaching Officer Jason Bulley. Whilst most of us enjoyed a restful l 4 day bank holiday, they both decided that 3 marathons in 3 consecutive days would be a great idea.
