Congleton parkrun (5k) – Saturday 23rd March

Just two Sandbach Striders braved the cold and snowy conditions on Saturday morning to run the Congleton parkrun at Astbury Mere.

The official race starter was Olympic Gold Medallist Anne Brightwell (née Packer). Ann won 800m Gold in Japan 1964, in a race which is still voted amongst one of the all-time Olympic moments. Her win made her the first ever British Female athlete to win a track race at the Olympics, setting a world record in the process. I’m sure her presence accounted for the 16 personal bests achieved today.
Terry Coppenhall finished in a fantastic 4th place with a time of 20:55 and Denis Culloty finished with a new PB in 25:48
Delamere parkrun (5k) – Saturday 23rd March

Just two Striders ran the Delamere parkrun this week.
Tony Taylor finished in 10th place with a time of 22:48 and Tony Ward finished in 33:00

Wilmslow Half Marathon – Sunday 24th March

The 29th Wilmslow Half marathon took place on Sunday with 5200 runners braving a cold and windy morning.

The Wilmslow Half Marathon is an extremely popular race, with all the places filling before the application deadline every year. It includes the England Half Marathon Championship.
The Wilmslow Half Marathon is a flat, one lap course on mainly flat rural roads.

The start line is in Kings Road. From there runners are directed along towards Burleyhurst Lane. They are then sent on a counter-clockwise loop along surrounding roads before returning along Burleyhurst Lane to the finish line at Mobberley Road.
