About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Ten Striders crossed the finish line at the free weekly parkrun in Congleton. Denise Dowling and Lindsey Beech both ran new personal best times.

Three Striders travelled down the M6 to Hanley Park to compete in the 5k Hanley parkrun. The results were as follows:

Michael Escolme ran the Wanstead Flats parkrun, near Leytonstone in East London, finsihng the two lap course in 25:55.

Also in 5k action was Helen Child who found herself at Upton House near Poole in Dorset. Helen finished the summer series 5k in a time of 29:26.

Husband and wife team Jason and Jo Bulley completed the Ultimate Triathlon at Dearnford Lake in Whitchurch. The event was a half ironman distance event which means a 1.2 mile open water swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and a half marathon run. Jason was first to finish in a time of 6 hours 13 minutes, narrowly followed by Jo in 6 hour 30 minutes.

Kate Jayden was back in action just a week after running a 105 off-road event in the Spitfire Scramble, a 24 hour endurance event in which Kate managed to cover 106 miles coming first female overall.

Paul Nicholls was back in action in his third ultra-distance run in three weeks at the Saltburn 30 finishing in a time of 6 hours 35 minutes.

Also in ultra-marathon action were several other Striders who took on the challenge of the Dig Deep running weekend. Starting with a 30 mile off-road race on Saturday, Fran Gilchrist, Craig Edwards, Tom Mayell, Gordon and Cheryl Hutchins all completed the event, with Fran Gilchrist completing his first ever ultra-distance event.

Karen Lovatt finished the 12.12 mile event, with Dave Stockton choosing a very challenging 10 course to finish his first ever 10k race.
