About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: St Lukes Hospice Oulton Park 10k 07/12/2014

Three striders braved the wintry showers and cold north westerly winds to take part in the St Luke’s Hospice 10k at Oulton Park.

Katie (and husband Nick, a runner but not yet a Strider!) and Matt and Elaine Wood. It’s St Luke’s first 10k and because it wasn’t widely advertised only 82 people registered and only 50ish turned up for the race.

This is a great venue for a race, ample parking on tarmac, plenty of toilets, a café serving hot and cold food and drinks and most importantly a good running surface. There were no trip hazards and no mud or puddles.  The race consisted of just over two laps around the undulating race track.

Katie and Nick crossed the line together in 58:48. Elaine finished in 58:49 a new PB, shaving 42 seconds off her previous.  Matt finished in 51.30 a new PB and 3:48 minutes faster than his Great Langdale (another undulating course!) time set in April 2014. When does undulating become hilly?

Discuss.

At the end of the race we received a medal, mulled wine and mince pies - good training for Wednesday evening.

We would definitely recommend Oulton Park as a good running venue and it’s only 13 miles up the road, just beyond Winsford.
