About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news 22/09/2014

It was all smiles this week at  Sandbach Striders running club as the club once more hosted the popular Sandbach 10k race.

At the free weekly Congleton parkrun ton Saturday 12 Striders ran the three laps of Astbuty Mere. Craig Edwards and Lucy Lee both managed new personal best times and new Strider Gayle Robson completed her first parkrun.

On Sunday, Philip Truman completed his first half-marathon. The English half-marathon in Warrington is a large corporate race and presumably very profitable given the lareg number of runners who enter. Philip Truman finished the race in 2:17:49

Also on Sunday Craig Edwards complete the Wild Warrior obstacle course in Derbyshire.

On Sunday it was the annual Sandbach 10k and runners were greeted with perfect weather conditions to traverse the challenging 10k multi-terrain course.

First up was the family fun run which consists of two laps around the perimeter of Elworth Cricket Club. 38 children (some assisted by Mum or Dad) completed the fun run and their efforts were rewarded with a special medal and chocolate bar. First girl across the finishing line was 12 year old Lilly Moorhouse and first boy was 8 year old Lucas Darlington.

The race itself was started by our Mayor Elsie Alcock

103 runners managed to complete the course which heads out from Elworth Cricket club across fields and tracks before looping around the quiet country lanes of Bradwell. The hedgerows and idyllic Cheshire countryside provide the perfect backdrop to the 10k route.

Fourteen members of Sandbach Striders running club participated in the event. Tim Morris finished in 4th place overall in an excellent time. Fran Gilchrist recorded a new personal best 10k time. Diane Woodcock completed her first 10k since recently joining the Striders. Lindsay Beech improved upon her 10k time just 5 months after completing the Couch-to-5k programme the Striders ran back in April.
