About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: Mobberley Round The Runway 5.3m 23/04/2015

Wimslow Running Club held there annual 'Round The Runway Race' on Thursday 23rd April.

This is one of those quirky midweek races which draws many club runners from around Cheshire. The novelty of this race, is that the course runs around Manchester Airport runway, one minute your running quietly along, next you have a jumbo jet a few metres above your head.

Race Report: Milford Murder 5m Trail Race 23/04/2015

On Thursday 23 April to celebrate St George’s Day I decided to accompany my good friend Sue Davies on the Milford Murder 5 mile trail race.

This race is part of the Spring Treble series organised by the Stone Master Marathoners and it comprises three 5 mile off road (trail) races run on three consecutive Thursday at 7.00pm. They are namely, Hanchurch Hilly (say no more), Mildford Murder (and it is) and Barleston Up and Down ( aah but you get a lovely buffet at the end of this race).  I last ran the series in 2013 and won my age group (V55) and my time then was 57.03, therefore, my strategy was to beat this time.

Tony Taylor was once more first Strider home but the best performance of the day was by Tracy Howe who ran a new personal best time.

Race Report: Crewe Air Products 10k 05/04/2015

South Cheshire Harriers held there annual 'Air Products 10k' on Sunday 5th April. This is far from being a glamorous race, without a hint of any countryside, trees or hills, it's possibly the most uninteresting, boring run on the race calendar, its basically two laps of Crewe industrial park, not a pretty sight!

Saying that I quite enjoy it in a sadistic way, why? because its a flat, fast course, and has a lot of PB potential, its also on our doorstep.

This week's news 06/04/2015

Members of Sandbach Striders partook in four different parkrun events this week. The popular free weekly 5k events continue to extend their reach around the country and provide runners with an excellent way to gauge their progress.
Sandbach Striders at Congleton parkrun
The parkrun at Congleton attracted a record attendance, aided by sixteen Striders who ran the three laps of Astbury Mere. Five Striders recorded new personal best times, Francis Gilchrist, Jason Bulley and graduates of the Sandbach Striders couch-to-5k programme Helen and Cat Child and Claire Dalton.
