About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

John Lawton: Latest Update

After 9 days John is still missing in Greece.

His wife Lynda, son Steve and brother David are still in the area and still searching for John.

Our concerns for John's safety and the well-being of Lynda and the rest of John's family continue to grow.

John is one of us and we need to pull together quickly to best support the search for him.

At the club meeting tomorrow evening all members of Sandbach Striders are encouraged to attend at 6:15pm for a meeting on how best we can help support the search for John.

We pride ourselves on being a tightknit, caring club - I know you'll all do your very upmost to attend.

John Lawton missing in Greece

John Lawton, a popular and well-respected member of Sandbach Striders, has not been seen since Sunday 8th of April when he ran in the Taygetos Challenge 2012, near Kalamata, in western Greece.

As each Strider will already know, John is a highly experienced off-road and marathon runner. It goes without saying that we are all deeply concerned about him at this time and our thoughts are with his wife Lynda and his family.

We are all hoping and praying that we have some good news to report very soon.

Race Report: Chester Spring 5 04/04/2012

Chester Spring 5, organised by West Cheshire A C club. Good turn out from our club, the first time for a few of us. Driving towards Chester, the wind was blowing and as we approached Chester it started to rain, it did blow over, but the cold wind stayed with us, extra layers for everyone was a must.

Race Report: Three Shires 30/03/2012

Those people who are close to me know exactly when I'm about to run a marathon. Apart from the slightly tense atmosphere, they know my pre marathon rituals are always the same and have been for the last ten years. Breakfast is a baguette with banana and honey, drink is an SIS carbohydrate drink, tape is religiously applied to my nipples and body glide is spread in strategic areas to avoid chafing.

So, when I arrived at the start line of the Three Shires Event on saturday morning having

Race Report: Essex Road Relay Championships 17/03/2012

As you may well have guessed from the title this is was not a race within the great shire of Cheshire. I now have official dual nationality as a  Cheshire lad and an Essex boy so with that in mind I recently joined forces with Billericay Striders running club my local club down south. I can see it now "Sandbach Striders twinned with Billericay striders", has a certain ring to it.

The club is of a similar size to ours and has the usual friendly members and social side we are all
