About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

News Report: 14/08/2012

Preston Parkrun (5k) – Saturday 11th August

The course is in Avenham and Miller Parks, and run on tarmac and gravel paths, although some sections of the course do accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. The starting point is at the bottom of Avenham Park, near the pavilion and underneath the East Lancashire Viaduct

Today’s event was a small family affair for Sandbach Striders. Michael Escolme was running with his sister Helen Renwick who is relatively new to running and Paul Nicholls was running against his teenage Son George.

Their times were, Paul Nicholls (26.20), George Nicholls (28.17), Michael Escolme (33:35) and Helen Renwick (33:35), well done to both Helen and George.

Long Tour of Bradwell – Saturday 11th Aug

This is a 50km (31m) fell race with 2070m (6800ft) of accent which is only partially marked so you have to navigate your way. The start was in Bradwell, Hope valley, northwest of Hathersage in the Peak District.

Strider Chris Brumby completed this very challenging race in 7:51:57 and was 59th out of 110 runners.

Cross Bay challenge (Half Marathon) – Sunday 12th August

Cross Bay Challenge is no ordinary half marathon, Crossing sand, sea and county borders, this flat but challenging race is an adventure to remember.

Race departs from the shore at Flookburgh, Cumbria and leads runners across the sands of Morecambe Bay, historically the quickest route from the Lake District to Lancashire at low tide, with monks moonlighting as guides to travellers. This is no ordinary half marathon and you do get wet… very wet.

The conditions were very blustery; the wind against us for a good deal of the race unfortunately and with the rain, wading water and running on sand made this a very tough race.

Alan Pearson (1:50:54) Gordon Hutchins (1:57:43), Michael Escolme (2:00:08), Terry Coppenhall (2:01:35), Jo Bulley (2:10:14), Perry Wyatt (2:11:09), Paul Nicholls (2:21:09) , Christiane Bunte (2:22:55), Jill Young (2:24:58),  Catherine Greaves (2:36:21), Clare Pheasey (2:36:22), Tom Mayell (2:50:30)

Let's do our bit for the Olympic legacy – Free taster sessions

Sandbach Striders free beginners running sessions. All welcome no matter on age or ability. We'd like to show you just why we all love running so much and we hope to build both your confidence and your ability over 3 weeks.

We'll be organizing a short warm-up and then a run which will vary in distance and speed depending on your ability. Members from Sandbach Striders will be on hand to chat and share stories and hopefully convey to you just why we all love running so much! We'll be running multiple sessions each Monday starting on the 27th of August at 6:30pm and we'd love to get you running with us regularly!
