About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 03/08/2015

Holiday season means the opportunity for members of Sandbach Striders to participate in a spot of parkrun tourism as they find themselves in different parts of the country. This week Striders were represented in 8 different events around Britain. Duncan Robertson ran the Swindon parkrun in 39:42 narrowly beating his daughter Milly who ran her first ever parkrun event.

Michael Escolme ran the recently started Birkenhead parkrun, located in the scenic Birkenhead park which is widely acknowledged to be the first publicly funded civic park in Britain and designed by the designer of the Crystal palace, Joseph Paxton. Michael finished in 31:26.

Andrew Gibson ran the Warrington parkrun finishing in a time of 26:58. Terry Coppenhall was the lone Strider at Congleton finishing in a time of 25:23. Grant Stanning ran the hilly Hanley parkrun in 32:44. Fran Gilchrist ran the Llanhydrock parkrun in Cornwall in 24:28. Paul Barnett finished the Croxteth Hall parkrun in Liverpool in 21:28

Gillian and Steve Fallows found themselves in York where the parkrun takes in 1.5 laps of the famous York racecourse. Both earned themselves new personal best times with Steve finishing in 20:29 and Gillian narrowly behind in 26:16.

Not content with that the pair were in action again the next morning in the Asda Foundation York 10k. The route takes in some of this medieval city’s most stunning scenery including ancient Goodramgate, the majestic York Minster and Clifford’s Tower where Henry VIII executed ‘traitors’. This was Gillian’s first 10k race and she finished in a time of 57:02, husband Steve once more ran a new personal best time of 42:52.

Twelve Striders ran the Cheshire Half marathon starting at Arley Hall near Northwich. It proved to be a very good course for new personal best times with Andy Thomas, Rick Kelso-Davies, Terry Coppenhall, Martin Gunther, Janet Burgess, Alice Bober and Lindsay Beech all improving on their previous best times.
