About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

News from Sandbach Striders 08/09/2014

Eleven members of Sandbach Striders running club took over the marshalling and organisation of the free 5k parkrun held every week at Astbury Mere.

17 other Striders ran the three lap route with Clare Pheasey and Catherine Greaves managing to run new personal best times.

A special mention must go to Martin Coleman who in preparation for his 35 mile ultra the day after opted to be the 25 minute pacemaker - check out his finishing time!

On Sunday, Delamere Forest hosted a series of events starting with the family fun run where two Striders of the future Tom and Holly Parr ran for the second year alongside his Dad Dave.

The family fun run was followed by the 10k trail race, two Striders Steph Cooper and Lou Hayward ran finishing in 1:25:09

The half-marathon trail event was next with three Striders running. Tony Taylor finished in 16th place overall in a time of 1.35.04. Club secretary Heather Carter dressed as a Morris dancer was next in 1.44.36 followed by Mat Simister who finished in 2.09.46. Mat stood out somewhat having ran the race dressed as  a rather disturbing Snow White.

Sandbach Striders have a new member
The annual running of the South Cheshire 20 mile road race was also on Sunday. Steve Farnell finished the race in 2:36:19

The Gritstone Grind, a 35 mile run along the length of the Gritstone trail from Kidsgrove to Disley which takes in 1800m of climb was run by 69 people this year including two Striders. Martin Coleman finished in 7 hours 18 minutes followed by Chris Brumby in 8 hours 8 minutes
