About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race report: Blackpool Illuminations 10k Chippy Run 07/11/2014

On the evening of the 7th November 15 members of Sandbach Striders embarked on a 10k run taking them through the Blackpool Illuminations.
Isn't it always the case that a weirdo sits next to you on public transport?

The drive there was without incident thanks to Terry's excellent driving skills. Along the way we listened to the classics of Smooth FM and excitement mounted as to who could spot the Blackpool tower first.

When we arrived it was windy and rainy but that certainly didn't dampen any spirits as everyone boarded the tram.

  Umbrella hats & glow sticks

On the tram Mik gave us all glow sticks and umbrella hats to wear, these made good photo opportunities.

During the run there were a few umbrella hat casualties, with a number of us chasing after our hats as they flew away.

We all stopped to pose for photos at the huge glitter ball and at a rotating Doctor Who Tardis.

Striders were as well-lit as the promenade!
Bench Gate

While we were all running and taking in the pretty lights I remember Martin saying to me how easy it would be to run into a bench and I agreed because you often go into your own world when running.

Woe and behold the next second Martin and I witnessed Andy running into a bench and flying over it.

Thankfully Andy said he was okay and he got up and continued running.

One thing is for sure: none of us will ever look at a bench in the same way again...

Fish & Chips

Around an hour later we had completed the run.  We made our way to the fish and chip shop narrowly missing closing time, but thankfully we used our charm and managed to get some orders in.

Homeward bound

After eating we made our way back to the van. Mik presented us with traditional Blackpool rock as a final treat.

Hold onto your hats it's windy!
It was a great evening that I really enjoyed, thanks to Mik for organising it and thanks to everyone who came for making it so much fun!
